The proof behind the promise.
Stillsense looks after vulnerable people, so trust isn't a marketing word — it's the work. This page lays out, plainly, what our technology can do today, how we protect privacy, and the evidence we're building. Including the parts that aren't finished yet.
We'd rather under-promise than be found out.
WiFi sensing is a young, fast-moving field, and it's easy to claim more than can be backed up. We've made a deliberate choice not to. Every capability we offer is labelled with its real maturity; safety-critical claims wait for independent validation; and anything that isn't dependable enough for a real home, we simply don't sell. If you ever find daylight between what we say and what we can prove, tell us — and we'll fix the claim, not the excuse.
What's proven, and what's coming.
| Capability | Status | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Presence detection | Available | Knowing whether someone is in a room, reliably and in real time |
| Motion & activity | Available | Recognising movement and the rhythm of a normal day |
| Bed-exit & night activity | Available | Noticing when someone gets up, or has a restless night |
| Fall detection | Available, under independent validation | Detecting likely falls in real time; we’re completing a formal validation study before making any safety-grade guarantee |
| Whole-home coverage | Available, improving | Sensing across rooms from few devices; range depends on the home’s layout |
| Breathing-rate monitoring | On our roadmap, validation-gated | Contactless respiration trends during sleep — promising, but we won’t bring it to a care setting until it’s clinically validated |
| Heart rate & detailed posture | Research only — not offered | Interesting in the lab, not dependable enough for real homes. We won’t put it in front of a vulnerable person until that changes. |

Tested where it has to count.
Detecting movement from Wi-Fi works in the lab; proving it in real, lived-in homes is the harder and more important task. Our validation programme follows the path Norwegian health technology is rightly held to.
Controlled testing
To establish detection rates and — just as importantly — false-alarm rates for presence, bed-exit, and falls.
Pilots in real settings
(Nursing-home and home-care), measured against the supervision methods in use today.
An independent validation study
With a clinical/research partner, published so others can scrutinise it — the single most important piece of evidence we'll produce.
We'll post results here as they're completed, including the limitations. A finding that holds up to outside scrutiny is worth more than a number we picked ourselves.
Private because of how it works, not just how it's configured.
Stillsense creates no image and no audio. What exists is an interpretation of movement, computed on a device in the home and kept there — you cannot reconstruct a picture from it, because the visual information never existed. That's a stronger guarantee than a privacy policy: it's a property of the technology.
- No camera, no microphone, no recording. Ever.
- Edge processing. Inference happens on-device, in the home; the raw signal doesn't leave.
- Lawful basis for care. Designed for the public-task basis municipalities rely on (GDPR Art. 6(1)(e) and, for health data, Art. 9(2)) rather than fragile consent.
- DPIA-ready. Built privacy-by-design, with a data-protection-impact-assessment foundation municipalities can adopt and reuse.
- Data minimisation. We keep what’s needed to keep someone safe, and no more.
Built to protect the data it does hold.
Because Stillsense processes at the edge and never creates images, the most sensitive data simply doesn't exist. For the operational data that does, we apply current security practice: encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access, secure update mechanisms for edge devices, and clear separation between customers. We treat security as ongoing work, not a certificate on a wall.
Designed to fit the rules that matter.
- Personvern / GDPR. Privacy-by-design, DPIA-ready, aligned with Datatilsynet expectations for welfare technology.
- Integration standards. Built for journal/EPJ integration via the Velferdsteknologisk knutepunkt (VKP), so deployments fit national infrastructure.
- Medical-device posture. Stillsense’s care features are offered as non-medical safety (“trygghet”) technology today. If and when we offer clinical vital-sign monitoring, we will pursue the appropriate medical-device pathway (EU MDR) and the clinical validation it requires — we won’t blur that line.
- Wi-Fi sensing standards. Developed with the direction of IEEE 802.11bf (WLAN Sensing) in mind.
